I'm back! (Post 7)

I guess I haven't been the best intern in keeping up to date with my blogging, but now things seem slower, I think I'll try to be better. What I have been doing in the mean time however, is work for Cocoa Cottages at www.cocoacottages.com and Plan Logical at www.planlogical.com. I've presented more designs and logo ideas to Orion Academy, and hopefully that will be my next new project. I've been careful to document everything and I think I'm getting the hang of things.

Post 6: Over 9000!!! (seconds)

Hey there, I almost didn't see you. No literally, I can't see. All that strain from staring at html on this laptop screen has finally gotten to me. I'm not complaining, I enjoy the experience of learning. I find myself learning quicker than I imagine. No longer to I have to hastily rush to online forums to trouble shoot my problems. While I am not nearly close to completely self reliant, I don't think my employers mind my occasional questions as I am actually doing work.

Today I worked on a client site: www.cabritsdive.com where I had my first experiences with Dreamweaver. While it may be called a "What you see is what you get" It would be better off coined "What you see is what you might get". After a few head aches, I finally got the wanted result.

After I finished updating the pages, I decided to stay over time. I gather more enjoyment from working here then I would sleeping at home. I finished up documenting how to make Maps on Google maps (the fruit of which is seen below) and finally took down additional notes for future projects. I'm going to miss when my Internship is done.

Uhh, Woops?

I've been offline the last week due to a technical error. After a few frantic emails and a fax, Google decided to restore my account. Hopefully, no one missed me too much. However, now I'm back, I'm looking forward to continue blogging. Since I last posted I've found myself doing more work for Delphis itself; including creating a flash banner for a client website and updating an index page of another. Of course tea-making and Roti runs are still part of my Job Description. I've done some more work on www.dylanmadisetti.com as well. While I'm currently working on a permanent page, I've put up a temporary "Under Construction" index up which links to my resume, which you can check out here. Anyway, I'll be back and working on Wednesday, so you can expect another post then.

A Client! A Client! - Day #4

Today was a good day. Not only was today Roti Day ( Aka Wednesday, when we buy Rotis for Lunch) but it was the day I met with my first client. In the client in question was the Principal of Orion Academy. Delphis currently supports Orion's web page on www.avirtualdominica.com (i.e.  www.avirtualdominica.com/orion/) however they're looking into a website. As an Alumnus of Orion I hope to mitigate this problem. Wish me luck? Signing off, Dylan Madisetti. Delphisintern.

On the third day at Delphis, my employeers gave to me..

A website!! No doubt I'll have to work to compensate for the cost, but frankly I don't mind. Hopefully, I'll have the site for the rest of my life, so it's well worth the investment, not to mention the experience. This should allow me to grasp the basics of web developing before moving on to other projects; a personal "sandbox" so to speak. At the moment it's "just a another Wordpress site" but Wordpress sites can look pretty good. For instance; www.communitytourism.dm, www.delphis.dm and www.images-dominica.com use the cms. With some time, mine should look just as nice; here's the link: www.dylanmadisetti.com. And a screen shot (it's just the standard template at the moment, but it's still cool (at least I think)). Thank you again Delphis!!

Day 2: Mermaids

Who would have thought being an intern would entail spending the morning at Fort Young Hotel surrounded by models dressed as Mermaids? I think I struck gold with this position. Hopefully I'll be sent on errands like this more often. The job in question was to take pictures for the opening of Dive Fest. While I managed to get pictures of sponsors and speakers, something else caught my eye. As you can see from the picture below, there were more interesting things than speeches. I still managed to do my job and although I was able to capture a few more shots of the girls I only included one as I felt it captured the true elegance of the Merpeople (There was a Scuba Minstrel Cowboy as well; right).Somehow,I think it's going to be a very good Dive Fest indeed.

Apart from mermaids, I find myself quite enjoying this job regardless of whether I'm in the field or the office. From collecting cheques to putting up my own website (hopefully); I'm starting to think Web Design might be a future career for me.

Hello World!

The laptop before me represents everything I hope to learn over the next few weeks. It is no doubt a scary prospect. My internship at Delphis Ltd. looks to defy the average teenage summer. It would seem that in a country as unique as Dominica, one would not want to spend a summer working much less working for free. I however, am not the average teenager. I am Dylan Madisetti, and I crave knowledge.

What better place is there to learn than at the hands of professionals? My employers Mr. Steve McCabe and Mrs. Wendy Walsh are easily some of the best Web Developers in the country and perhaps the Caribbean region. Hopefully with their help, I can learn to create web site and someday, become a Web Master myself. Wish me luck!
